Sol offers one-on-one or small group pods of 2-4, unless a larger pod is requested. Pods can be organized by the participating families or we are happy to facilitate connecting potential pod matches.
Classes can take place in the Sol learning space in Valleycliffe, or in a location of your choice. We strive to use the outdoors as much as possible, provided this facilitates a positive learning experience for your child.
Please send your child with a snack or lunch and clothing for the outdoors to ensure that they are best prepared to learn. If additional supplies are required, families will be contacted prior to the next lesson.
Our specialty is science and outdoor education, but we love teaching any subjects and strive to follow the BC curriculum. We are happy to work with any topic your child is interested in at the moment in whichever format facilitates the most engagement.
Sol focuses on a hands-on, activity-based approach. Learners will typically receive a learning prompt and we will explore the topics at hand through fun activities, experiments and exploration. With that in mind, we are happy to work in whatever format works best for your family.
Summer camps meet at various locations around Squamish. Registrants will receive a schedule of locations the week prior to camp.
We are happy to accept private funding or any other external funding source available to you, such as AFU, Fawkes, e-Streams, Self Design, IDLC/PIE, Pathways or any other distance learning academy. We have current criminal record checks on file with most organizations and are approved as a service provider with MCFD's Autism Funding Unit (AFU).
Any single or multiple sources of funding can be used for homeschool support, behaviour support and/or summer camps.
Invoicing depends on funder preference. AFU is typically invoiced per session, other distance learning organizations are invoiced bi-weekly or monthly.
Summer camps are invoiced on registration.
If an emergency occurs, first aid will be performed and emergency personnel will be contacted if necessary. Parents/guardians or emergency contacts will be notified as soon as possible to come pick up the child or meet at the hospital if appropriate.
If a child is ill (fever, chills, cough, diarrhea, vomiting, rash or other communicable diseases), they must be kept home and not return until they are free of symptoms for 24 hours. If a child falls ill during session, parents/guardians will be contacted to come pick-up the child immediately. Refunds or credits will not be issued for child illness.
If an educator is ill, parents/guardians will be contacted by 8 am that day. Credits will be issued if a session must be canceled due to educator illness.
